- Spring Used Car Fair held in Kochi -

From March 7 through March 9, we took part in an used car fair which is held by Japan Used Car Dealer Association of our town semiannually in spring and fall. This event has more than 20 years of history and we have been participating in it for the 6th year in a row.
?About 600 used cars from 15 of used car retailers were on sale, with about 100 of them sold out during three days. It is a sharp contrast to 15 years ago when half of used cars at the fair were sold out. Sluggish economy and the fact that people”Ēs unwillingness to switch to new cars are cited as reason for a drop in sales. Actually, Japanese cars which boast their quality rarely break down, not prompting people to purchase new ones as a result.
?At this time of year, this kind of fairs for used and new cars are seen at various places in Japan, making cars in short supply. So many buyers show up in auction houses and auction prices tend to go up. When in April prices will be likely to go down a little. Because a number of used cars will be pouring in auction from the fairs and through general dealings. I think it would be a good timing for buyers from overseas to do their business at this time.

Japanese cars and Japanese used cars in Hawaii

Last week I was in Hawaii with our staff. I was amazed when I found out climate of these two countries differ so much. Because, it took us only seven hours to fly there. Although we stayed there for just three days, it was enough for us to enjoy ourselves, doing things such as, diving, driving around in Oahu and trying shooting with guns and rifles at a play shop.?????? ?.
? During our stay in Hawaii, I could not help but look at cars running on streets. I admit this is the nature of my work. And what caught my attention was the number of Japanese cars. About a half of them are Japanese cars, such as Toyota Corolla, Honda CR-V, Nissan Murano and Subaru Legacy etc. Even Toyota”Ēs and Honda”Ēs cars which I have never seen in Japan. This made me realize most Japanese cars in Hawaii are made abroad, not in Japan.
?But it was fun to see so many left-side-drive cars bearing logos of Japanese auto makers which were all I saw for the first time. Somehow, I felt a mixed feeling when I realized that Japanese auto makers are now putting efforts in demand from overseas market rather than that of Japan”Ēs.

Our new stock, Elf truck and Atlas truck

Two very interesting trucks have been added to our stock. One is an insulated truck, basing 2-ton Atlas truck, and another is a refrigerated truck basing 3-ton Elf truck. Especially, a refrigerated truck is so rare that it won”Ēt be sold up for auction. Even if it happens to be up for auction, it is the one without cooling equipment.
Both Atlas and Elf are in good condition, with low mileage of about 130,000km for truck. There is no problem with their AL and electrical equipment.
In recent years, the budget on Japanese public construction has been on the decrease until it became 30% of when it was spent most. So, it is obvious that sales of heavy machinery and trucks for construction use have been dropping drastically. While in South East Asia, Africa and Australia, used trucks and heavy machinery from Japan are in demand now. Taking the trucks”Ē balance of the supply and demand into account, their price will be going up rapidly.? K and K Trading is committed to do its best to offer not expensive, but good trucks to you.

- Reduction in Price of MAZDA, RX-8 ABA-SE3P in Stock -

We are going to lower the price of Mazda RX-8 drastically. The RX-8 is equipped with rotary engine, which is used for only Mazda”Ēs products now.?The RX-8 is one of a few of Japanese sports cars. Although its engine”Ēs power does not exceed its predecessor RX-7, we can see remarkable improvement in RX-8”Ēs corner and linear stability as well as in its spacious back seats.?The RX-8 in stock, with its specification 6-speed manual and type S, makes it the best sports car of all RX-8 models. - Kochi Import-Car Show -

Import-car (vehicles not only on a display, but also for sale) show was held nearby my office and I went there. What I felt was Japan is still remaining as one of the prosperous countries in the world, because the show held in such a small local city where we are living, drew so many people. During the show, German cars, especially Mercedes-Benz, ML350 and BMW 630i kept attracting crowds of people. What caught people”Ēs eyes most of all was HUMMER H3 for right hand drive. It is now as popular as sedan, HUMMER H3 has been deliberately for sale to compete in markets such as in Japan, U.K., New Zealand and Australia In addition, it reflects the intention of the Republic of South Africa (where HUMMER H3 was manufactured) which wants to stabilize it in its domestic market, too.
?In Japan, HUMMER is becoming a fad now. There was a boom in a slightly bigger minivan like CHEVROLET ASTRO and GMC Safari about ten years ago. So, it is very interesting to see if HUMMER H3 for right hand drive will be a big success in Japan like ASTRO and Safari.

- Release of Suzuki Palette -

Today, I went to see Suzuki Palette”Ēs show.? Although Palette is a vehicle with its engine capacity less than 660CC, it has power-sliding door on both sides of rear seats and the function to start and stop an engine without inserting a key. (All you have to do to start and stop an engine is having remote control in hand and press the brake and the engine button.)
This vehicle is tough and has an engine power which works sufficiently. Also, its tall roof made it possible for the vehicle to have enough space for four of adults ( who are over 180cm tall).
In Japan, people owning this type of vehicle (engine capacity less than 660CC) are favorably treated in terms of tax and insurance. So its sales has been growing for years in line with its progress of performance. Now the vehicle with its engine capacity less than 660CC dominates almost 50% of annual registered vehicles for the new cars.
This year”Ēs market for this type of vehicle will be kept on being influenced by Suzuki Palette and Daihatsu Tanto.

Our new stock, Subaru Impreza

Subaru Impreza has been in stock lately. It”Ēs highly evaluated and popular not only in Japan but in Europe as well. Its grade, TA-GDA WRX 2003V-Ltd is ranked ?second next to the top grade, GH-GDB, WRX STI.
It features a high-powered engine which enables Impreza to drive faster than Toyota? Supra and Nissan Skyline on a mountain road. And its rear seats are spacious, because Impreza uses a small-sized sedan as its base.
So, we can say that Subaru Impreza is one of WRC cars which Japan is proud of, along with Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and GH-CT9A.

A Happy New Year

Let me wish you all ”Č A Happy New Year”É. Excuse me it”Ēs a little late to say so though.
Well, I have news. As you see, K and K Trading set up a blog, starting from 2008. Meanwhile, it does not seem that the outlook for export business in 2008 is good. Since the very beginning of this year, the news of exhaust emission standards of New Zealand and Russia (known as EURO 3), Kenya”Ēs election related violence, price hike in crude oil, and appreciation of Japanese Yen has been reported.
Even under these circumstances, products ”ČMade in Japan”É such as Nissan super car GT-R and Panasonic”Ēs 150 inch TV have been steadily making progress. And they will surprise the world further this year, too.
